Primary Intermediate Basketball Yr 1 -6

  • Games played with a size five ball.
  • Games are Two x 12 minute running clock halves for yrs 1-4, and 2 x 13 Minute running clock halves for Yrs 5-6 with two minute breaks and three minutes between games.
  •  ALL teams play with BANDS in Yrs 1-4, and some grades in Yr 5-6, No arm bands in Yr 7-8
  • Children must defend the player with the same color band as themselves.
  • Colored wrist band can only be exchanged between a player subbing into the game – replacing a teammate – subbing out of the game.
  • Team mates are NOT ALLOWED to switch colored wrist bands with each other on the court during the game.
  • The penalty is a one-point basket against the team switching colored wrists bands on the court.
  • Coaches can at half time-have players switch bands before taking the court again.
  • All in bounding passes must be taken from behind the line.
  • Double Dribble violation called.
  • Travelling calls will be to the discretion of the referee.
  • Back court rule applies. From Yrs 3-8
  • Referee will call fouls but score bench will not record, HOWEVER, a point will be automatically awarded to the attacking team with each foul called against the defense, and they will receive the ball back at the sideline/baseline.
  • If an attacking player is fouled in the act of shooting, then two points will automatically be awarded.
  • If an attacking player is fouled in the act of shooting and the basket is made, two points will be awarded, and a further one point will be added because of the foul.
  • If an attacking player is interfered with, by an opposition player wearing a different colored band, then one point will automatically be awarded.
  • The use of the on-ball screen or any screening action on and off the ball is banned in this age group competition.
  • The game is defaulted if team is not on court ready to play three minutes into the game.
  • Teams must start with a minimum of four REGISTERED players. Must have fifth player on court by the sixth minute into the game. If not, game is defaulted.
  • Coaches are NOT permitted on the court to help direct players.
  • One time out per half allowed, however not in the last two minutes of each half.
  • Substitutions can be made at any time. They do not have to go through the referee.
  • Three-point shooting is allowed in this competition.
